This Week In Saginaw Jaycees! Vol. 3; 2016
January 20, 2016
My Fellow Jaycees,
I hope this message finds you in good health and spirit! It has come to
my attention that these messages can feel a tad overwhelming. I was afraid of
that! I realize that they contain a lot of text, however I’ve worked very hard
to make them as user friendly as possible. With that in mind, I thought I’d
take a moment to talk about how I intend this document to be used.
You DO NOT need to look at every word in this email! I designed
it to be easily skimmed, then when you have specific questions you can use the
information provided here as a resource.
You should always read the intro to this email, everything in bold, and
the calendar sections at the end. If all you ever read are these few lines,
then you will be in the loop as to what’s going on in the chapter. The rest of
the details are there to be used as needed.
If you have feedback about these emails, or anything else the chapter
is doing, please feel free to speak to myself or another board member! We will
do our best to serve the membership!
Alright, now that we’re (hopefully) clear about all that, on to
business.
Be There!!!- January General
Membership Meeting (GMM)
Who: You, and
anyone else interested in the Saginaw Jaycees
What: Monthly
business meeting
When: Tuesday,
January 26 @7pm (We will start promptly at 7, so arrive a few minutes early if
you want to order food or drink!)
Where: Ace’s
Lounge, inside Stardust Lanes. 3750 Bay Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603
Why: The GMM is the
best place to exercise your voice in the direction of the chapter. This year,
the meetings will be structured slightly differently. The business portion will
be kept as short as possible, there will be time for committees to check in and
do some planning, and guest speakers on a regular basis. If you have an idea,
suggestion, desire, or passion, this is the place to develop it! Also, how else
will you become friends with anyone else in the group if you don’t come?
Note: Please note the new location.
Note: There will be a new member orientation from 620-650 at Aces,
prior to the GMM. If you’re a newer member, interested in membership, or just
have some questions and want to learn more, this is for you!
General Greatness: Flint
Water Crisis
As I’m sure all of
you know, a massive tragedy has occurred in Flint. They have been having
problems with their water supply for over a year now. As Jaycees, we make it
our business to know what is going on around us, and to be involved. While a
horrific tragedy, this is a great opportunity for us to put into action the
ideas that we preach.
The Burton Area
Jaycees have taken the lead on organizing ways to help Flint. At the moment,
there are three ways to be involved.
First- Donate bottled water. You can bring cases of
water to our GMM in January or February, and I will personally make sure they
get to the Burton Area Jaycees, who will then donate them to local shelters.
Second- Donate money. Sometimes, the very best thing
you can do is donate money to a cause you believe in. It is often more useful
for an agency to be able to decide what resources are purchased. The Burton
Area Jaycees have set up a gofundme page. The funds raised will be used to
purchase water, filters, filter replacements, and whatever other needs there
are in the community. Even if you don’t give yourself, please share the page
and encourage others you know to donate! Jaycee Aid for Flint Water Crisis
Third- Be educated! There is a facebook group with
constant conversations about what’s going on. It’s a fabulous place to stay
involved. Jaycee Discussion Group Re: Flint Water Crisis

Center, 303 Johnson St, Saginaw, MI 48607
Why: Why not? It’s
fun.
